Alzheimer's Disease Society

Depression Alliance
Depression Alliance is the leading UK charity for people affected by depression. They work to relieve and to prevent this treatable condition by providing information and support services. International Stress Management Association
The International Stress Management Association is a registered Charity with a multi-disciplinary professional membership. Mental Health Act 2007
The new Mental Health Act 2007 has been passed, replacing the Act of 1983. The Act specifies where people are treated and what kind of treatment will be given; the rights of the patient, relatives and friends, which professionals can make decisions; and what counts as a "mental disorder". The Act is due to come into force on 3 November 2008.For more information try

Mental Health Foundation
The Mental Health Foundation exists to help people survive, recover from and prevent mental health problems. They are keen to tackle difficult issues and try different approaches, many of them led by service users themselves. RCP Changing Minds Campaign
The Changing Mind Campaign is trying, in a variety of ways, to encourage everyone to stop and think about their own attitudes and behaviour in relation to mental disorders. If we do stop and think, we will almost certainly understand more, and as a result become more tolerant of people with mental health problems.

Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health
The Sainsbury Centre of Mental Health works to improve the quality of life for people with mental health problems. We carry out research, analysis, training and development to improve practice and influence policy services. Our work focuses on those areas where we can make the greatest difference to people's lives. Sane and Saneline
SANE was established in 1986 following the overwhelming public response to a series of articles of articles featured in 'The Times' newspaper entitled The Forgotten Illness' written by Marjorie Wallace, now SANE's Chief Executive. The articles uncovered the neglect  of people suffering from schizophrenia and the poverty of services and treatments.  From its initial focus on schizophrenia, SANE developed and is now concerned with all mental illnesses. www.sane.org.uk
YoungMinds
YoungMinds campaigns about the importance of children's mental health; the importance of recognising when a child is troubled and providing adequate support for these children before their problems escalate out of control. www.youngminds.org.uk
Psychminded
This is an independent site that is not aimed specificallyfor or maintained by service users, but is highly recommended. The person who runs it is called Adam James, who is a free-lance journalist. That means he's free to ask difficult questions and raise challenging topics. There are up-to-date bulletins on mental health issues, and links to a wide range of relevant sources. There are also good links to up-to-date research information.

Plus Hyphen - 21
This is another independent base for ideas and initiatives, most of them concerning mental health. It includes a good paper on spirituality and mental health; it describes a successful service user campaign to institute a code of professional good conduct for ward rounds and similar meetings. www.hyphen-21.org

The UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) was established to provide support for clinical research and to facilitate the conduct of randomised prospective trials and other well-designed studies.
